Cost of Living Support
What are we doing to help at Bailey Street Alternative Provision Academy?
Bailey Street Alternative Provision Academy is aware that the cost-of-living pressures are affecting a lot of people. We understand that it can be hard for parents to ask for help we want to reassure you that we are approachable and always non-judgemental.
FREE BREAKFAST CLUB FOR ALL PUPILS AND STAFF 8.45am to 9.15am
Free cereal, bagels, hot porridge, milk or a hot drink is available to all pupils and staff every morning served from 8.45am to 9.15am
FREE FOOD AND DRINK AT MORNING BREAK FOR ALL PUPILS 10.50am to 11.05am
Free cereal, bagels for those who missed breakfast, along with fruit, fruit juice or a hot drink.
FREE LUNCH FOR ALL PUPILS 12.30pm till 1.00pm
Free lunch consisting of a main course, pudding and drink is provided to all pupils irrespective of means.
Free brunch is served on a Friday from 11.30am until 12.00pm
FREE SCHOOL UNIFORM FOR ALL PUPILS
School t-shirts and sweatshirts are provided to all pupils.
PE kit including football boots provided for school competitions.
School uniform and PE kit is laundered here at Bailey Street removing this burden from parents.
FREE INGREDIENTS FOR FOOD TECH LESSONS AND FOOD TECH EXAMS
We provide all pupils with all ingredients needed for all food tech lessons and food tech exams.
FREE PERIOD PRODUCTS
For the last two years have received period poverty funding from our washroom hygiene supplies PHS allowing us to purchase a range of sanitary products – these are available for pupils to use during the school day and free packs can also be sent home if needed – please speak to a member of school staff in confidence.
FREE SCHOOL EQUIPMENT
Stationery, pens, paper, books, calculators, art material etc are provided for all pupils.
In conjunction with our friends at Hearts and Hands we are able to distribute one food parcel a week to one of families – please contact the school office in confidence if you feel you would benefit from receiving such a parcel and we will do our best to assist.
Hearts and Hands have also been kind enough to provide all of our pupils with a free easter egg and a free section box at Christmas time.
FREE BIKE REPAIR
We offer a free bike repair service to those pupils who use a bike to attend school and will support your child in making sure that they have lights on their bikes.
We have staff swap shop list where staff can list any items of clothing or household items no longer needed, they are happy to donate.
Staff are encouraged to car share to save on fuel costs where possible.
We ask that pupils treat school resources with respect – any damage to school uniform, equipment or the school building will result in a charge for replacements so that we can continue to provide these items for free to all.
Support for pupils and families
The government’s cost of living payment is available for those receiving certain benefits or tax credits. Those who are eligible can get up to 3 different types of payment depending on their situation:
- A Cost of Living Payment, for people receiving a qualifying low income benefit or tax credits
- A Disability Cost of Living Payment, for people receiving a qualifying disability benefit
- A Pensioner Cost of Living Payment, for people entitled to a Winter Fuel Payment for winter 2022 to 2023

“Hearts and Hands is a local non-profit organisation initially set up to assist those who had been affected by reduced income, reduced hours or furlough due to COVID in Stafford and surrounding villages.
We now predominately deal with working people who need a bit of help, zero contracts, part time and self employed.
The voluntary team at Hearts and Hands have the needs of the community foremost in their mind with the mission to help wherever they can to those who are in need, breaking the social barriers and giving assistance where needed

“The support offered by HoB includes practical support such as though our Food, Toiletry and Clothing Banks plus advice, guidance on a range of issues as well as signposting to professional organisations.

Rising Brook Community Church FOOD BANK
The Food Bank based at Rising Brook Community Church supports local people who find themselves temporarily experiencing particular hardship.
